At the core of our curriculum is the belief that children learn better when their interests and fascinations are allowed to flourish, they are given opportunities to develop a secure sense of identity, belonging and connectedness with the past. The delivery of the Humanities subjects (History and Geography) are intrinsic to and woven through our curriculum Projects for every year group.
History - Our history curriculum aims to inspire our pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. History helps pupils to understand the process of change, the diversity of societies as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.
Our history curriculum will equip the children to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgment.
This half term, Class 3 are learning about rocks and soils and about the history of mining in Cornwall. They kickstarted these new topics by visiting Geevor Tin Mine. We had a fantastic time learning about the history of the mine, having a go at some mining activities such as crushing rocks, speaking to a real Cornish miner about his experiences, panning for gem stones, and touring a section of the mine.
