Homework
Ideally, children in Class 3 should complete 10 minutes of practice each day, at least five times a week, for reading, spelling, and times tables.
Reading
Listening to your child read at home is one of the most effective ways to support their academic progress across all areas of the curriculum.
The book your child brings home is carefully selected to match their current reading ability—both in terms of decoding (word reading) and comprehension.
Once they finish their book, they will be able to complete a quiz on it using the Accelerated Reader program in school. Scoring 80% or higher on three quizzes will allow them to progress to the next spine point.
Spelling
Spelling homework involves practising a list of 10 focus words each week. These words will be introduced every Monday. We will then check the children’s progress and understanding the following Monday with a "Spell It Out" assessment.
While spelling homework is optional, we strongly recommend exploring and practising the focus words with your child to help support their spelling progress and build their confidence.
Times Tables
Children can practise their times table facts using TT Rockstars. Please check the back of your child’s reading record for their login details.
This fantastic online programme adjusts automatically as your child plays, ensuring they are always appropriately challenged.
